Sorry! Have not posted in a while! Chemo and radiation have been a struggle for me these past few months. I know it’s not the most interesting topic, but I’m trying to come out of this alive! It has been difficult because my brain doesn’t work as well as it should at times. I’ve been doing chemo and radiation for cancer and it has wiped me out! Chemotherapy sucks but radiation is worse because they make you feel so tired every day for six weeks straight!!!

Why I have not been posting
Back about a month and a half ago before my birthday chemo started to kick my ass. I was not able to keep up with my job, and am now on a leave of absents. I started radiation about a week ago. This makes me tired along with the chemo I just don’t have the drive to do anything. Plus I had reactions to chemo causing neuropathy which is numbing of hands and feet.

What has kept me preoccupied
With all that is going on my Doctor visits have stepped up a lot. Radiation is every day, 5 days a week for about 1 hour. That does not cover chemo treatments or if I need fluids. Keynote here drink a lot of water!

My current state of mind right now is foggy because of treatments. I am suffering from a few sides effects like numbing of feet and hands that have slowed progress. But I am grateful that I am still alive. Grateful to the Doctors and Nurses who take care of me!

This is with a heavy heart I write this post. 2020 we have been thru so much with Covid 19 and the way life has changed. Things in some sectors are coming back but with prices so volatile this, not a blessing.

Raw materials have gone up, which affects steel prices across the world. Plus mills are recovering from the pandemic were plants slowed or shut down. Now they’re coming back! Metal building manufacturers cause of the pandemic let their inventory drop too low levels. All this creates a perfect storm of demand that causes prices to be volatile.

Now, this has happened many times over the years but not on this scale. I remember back in the 2000s price increases when down to price good for 1 day. Back then I stopped selling buildings. But now the manufacturers have learned and put in clauses like -PRICE INCREASES -BUYER AGREES AND STIPULATES THAT IN THE EVENT SELLER RECEIVES NOTIFICATION OF A PRICE INCREASE FROM ANY OF ITS SUPPLIERS BETWEEN THE DATE OF THIS PO AND THE DATE SCHEDULED FOR DELIVERY OF THE METAL BUILDING SYSTEM, SELLER RESERVES THE RIGHT, IN ITS SOLE DISCRETION AND JUDGMENT, TO INCREASE THE PURCHASE PRICE STATED HEREIN IN AN AMOUNT CORRESPONDING TO SAID PRICE INCREASE(St MOREOVER, BUYER AGREES AND STIPULATES THAT IT SHALL PAY TO SELLER ANY AND ALL SURCHARGES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, FUEL SURCHARGES, THAT SELLER MAY PUT INTO EFFECT PRIOR TO DELIVERY OF ALL MATERIALS COVERED BY THIS PO.

That means when raw materials roll into the plant they have no idea what the cost is so even though they gave you a number it may increase right up to delivery. That’s crazy! Now the world doesn’t stop so if you have to buy I’m telling you to be wear and look closely at your contract or PO before signing. If you can sit on the sidelines and wait for stabilization in the market. Erectors you may see projects go away or slow down. And the worst you may be asked to help make some concessions for buyers’ mistake, don’t do it. Volatile times can cost you so be cautious. If we ran our business-like updates from Microsoft Windows update windows 10 problems we would be out of business! Don’t be like Microsoft windows update. We all work off of computers these days. Forbidding, emails, and drawings these days but I remember when I first started there were no computers and cell phones. You did everything by going to the Contractors/Owners office to get plans, takeoff at home to bid by hand then return plans with a bid to the office. Very time-consuming! But personable.
Then the age of computers rolled around and we have never looked back! Today everything is touched by computer use, We can look at plans online, bid and even communicate with clients office all while not leaving are office or home.

But what do you do when an update crashes your computer? Or effects system so you lose programs or data. IT COSTS YOU MONEY! It costs you time to fix or get fixed. Meanwhile, clients don’t wait for your bids or communications they move on. Microsoft is a giant company with a massive bank account so they just don’t care. If our businesses were as bad as their updates lately we would be gone! Now don’t get me wrong coming from no computer to windows 10 is light speed compared to the old days. The story of Windows 10 is ever-changing. I just wished they would perfect their updates so a lot of us are not affected.

You must have backups these days so you don’t lose access to your information. Microsoft Windows update going to be problems down the road for a while so you must guard against big tech not caring about you with backups and also startup disks to combat them not doing their due diligence. Thanksgiving-day-2020 will be different this year from years past. Covid 19 has changed everything across this great nation. We might be with family and friends this season. 2020 has been a turbulent year. The political climate, Racial climate, or Covid affected us all this year. Most importantly, stealing time we cannot get back. Therefore for this one-day, let’s be thankful for what we have!
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving today!
Celebrating Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends to gather and enjoy each other’s company. The tradition includes turkey, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. For instance parades, football games also have long associations with the holiday. And is the kickoff for the Christmas shopping and religious season to begin. A time to reflect on the year and what we are thankful for this year. As for myself, the marriage of my son to his amazing wife.
Thanksgiving Traditions
Above all traditions will be different so let us not lose hope. You may be zooming instead of gathering. We may not be shopping like we did last year, but we can do more online. We may be masked up or eating outdoors. Just don’t lose sight. Even though things have changed this year, time has taught us this will not last forever. Therefore, still have football games, Christmas movies, and decorating for Christmas.

Weather-plus-construction the great variable affects a big part of construction output, profitability, and schedule and Loss Over the years, I was in business, the weather was a big part of construction output, profitability, and schedule and Loss. Schedule these days is everything so days loss is a major deal that affects the project. Hurricane Season around here also affects schedule and profitability. And in my opinion, once the time is lost it’s very hard to pick up that loss. Back in 2005, We did a manufacturing facility down below Orlando, FL. Three major hurricanes that year passed over the job site. We had damage that caused us to redo some of the project. But the major loss of time was caused by a tree thru the hotel so my crew had no place to stay. That variable cost me money and time loss at no fault of my own but the owner plus contractor really didn’t care that much just get the job done so other trades could start.

Affects
Weather affects all of us, so it pays to be informed. I just got a new roof installed. Certified roofing solutions LLC did a great job. But their schedule was affected by the weather here in Fla.we have had HEAT and rain. It also affected time on the job. The 2-day plan turned into 3 days. These are things when bidding an unforeseen job, which affects profitability. I am sure someone out there has a formula for this, but I never came up with one. In the summer, added a small amount for heat and rain, hurricane season. Winter was better here in the south to work, but it also had effects too. Freezing in some mornings to shirt sleeve weather in the afternoon and affected crew output.

Being a concealed carry permit holder for many years I firmly believe in this right to protect myself and others. It’s like a fire extinguisher for your house for a fire. May it happen I pray not but I sure want it if it happens. While in business I have woke up a trucker with a gun into my face. Not a very pleasant situation. I have also had one employee threaten my life which is the closest I ever came to pulling my weapon. The point is life comes at you fast.
